Interior design Amsterdam | Full apartment renovation Amsterdam Oost

Project type

Interior design Amsterdam | Full renovation project in Amsterdam Oost

Date

October 2024

Location

Amsterdam

This full renovation project in Amsterdam Oost blends Nordic minimalism with warm, natural materials. The goal: simplify the daily life of a family of four, creating a calm and relaxing refuge from the urban chaos.

We began by removing the old flooring and installing underfloor heating, followed by a beautiful new herringbone floor that adds elegance and timeless character. All walls and ceiling were freshly plastered and painted in a neutral and natural color palette.

A custom-designed kitchen was crafted using oak wood and natural stone, offering both functionality and aesthetic harmony. We chose rounded edges on the island, cabinets, and the doorway to convey a feeling of softness. One of the fundamental aspects on which we focused was "storage": living in 90 square meters with 2 small children means having to optimize every centimeter. For this reason, everything was custom designed, including the long storage bench, which is used as a seat in the dining area, and extends to the living area, becoming a TV cabinet. Even the choice of furniture responds to an idea of balance between form and function. We opted for low and comfortable sofas and armchairs, which promote an informal and relaxed conviviality, typical of the Nordic style.
The 3 bedrooms were designed to meet practical needs without sacrificing aesthetics. The two children's rooms, one of which is only 6 square meters, were optimized with custom-made storage, to contain games, books, clothes and everyday objects. Both bedrooms were decorated with wallpapers depicting countryside and natural landscapes, in shades of green, to create a bucolic and relaxing atmosphere, in continuity with the bond with nature that runs through the house. Finally, in the master bedroom, the space was fully optimized, placing the bed in the centre of the room, and creating symmetry between a custom-made wardrobe positioned on the left side, and a long chest of drawers that also serves as a desk / home office, positioned under the window on the right side. Here too, the mood is simple and natural, with beige walls and accents of green, which recall nature and convey calm.

The result is a light-filled, serene space with a Nordic soul - perfect for modern living in the heart of Amsterdam.
